Celebrating 40 years on air, WHBC 96.3 HD3 is Howard University’s Student Operated Radio Station and a major media outlet for the Howard University’ community. WHBC 96.3 HD3 has the campus’ ear and is a part of the Howard student collegiate lifestyle.
WHBC 96.3 HD3 was founded in 1975 by a group of talented students from the Howard University Department of Radio, Television, & Film. WHBC 96.3 HD3 has since grown into the cutting edge college radio station it is today.
From its founding date, WHBC 96.3 HD3 has been serving the Howard University community with guidance from its parent station WHUR 96.3FM. WHBC 96.3 HD3 has developed into a powerhouse for urban contemporary music, targeting over 10,500 Howard University students ages 18-34.
WHBC 96.3 HD3 operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, broadcasting on Channel 51 of the University’s residential TV network (ResNet), on 96.3 HD3 on HD radio, on a free iPhone and Android application and online through the homepage website. WHBC 96.3 HD3 is dedicated to providing students the opportunity to learn technical skills, lead in management positions and offer hands-on training.
WHBC 96.3 HD3 has added to the renowned Howard University legacy by becoming one of the most advanced college radio stations in the country. At the Black College Radio Conference, WHBC 96.3 HD3 has won the following awards:

WHBC also received the 2016 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Signature Station Award.
