Many know Angela Rye for her social media clapbacks, funny political memes and unapologetic tone on CNN. This week Rye has brought that same energy into laughing a new podcast, titled “On 1,” focusing on politics, Blackness and social issues.

Rye gained widespread attention in the midst of the 2016 president campaign season, using Beyonce’s lines to speak up for Black Americans and dismissing Trump dialogue. Her recent advocacy has landed her in Essence Magazine’s Woke 100 Women, next to names like Issa RaeMaxine Waters and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Rye shared that her podcasts continues to builds upon her work and advocacy, while also opening more doors to conversation.

“[The show is] for folks who are desiring to hear from someone who’s completely honest and doesn’t really hold back so fortunately, I’ve been given platforms where I can do just that and this is just and extension of those already existing platforms,” she said

According to the Huffington Post, the podcast will feature special guest interviews, political segments, and the best ways to practice resistance during the Trump era.

Angela Rye acknowledges the depth in topics but she ensures her audience that the show will always be fun and engaging. She actually dedicates her podcast to the individuals who consider themselves to be both sophisticated and ratchet — “Sophistiratchet” was how she described it to BET.

Rye hopes to use her podcast to give Blacks the voice and courage to express themselves freely.

“Whether it’s freedom to express, freedom to live, freedom to earn, freedom to thrive, freedom to learn, whatever it is, I want to make sure that I’m a part of these spaces and opening doors,” said Rye.

You can find “On 1” weekly on iTunes, Soundcloud, Tidal and Spotify.
