With live performers, funnel cakes and camaraderie, Yardfest was the place to be during Howard’s homecoming weekend. Whether you are a hardcore music fan or just a student enjoying college life after midterms, Yardfest had the perfect vibe for everyone. There were performances from seasoned artists like Doug E. Fresh and from new generation rappers such as Rick Ross, Wale and Tory Lanez. Students and alumni filled the Yard singing and dancing to the tunes of various DJ’s. The Yardfest lineup also consisted of a few upcoming artists who were able to perform and promote their music. Rick Ross was the headlining artist, and it’s safe to say that he stole the show. As soon as the official Yardfest line up was released via Twitter, a lot of students  expressed outrage, claiming this year’s performer lineup did not live up to the standards of Yardfest in previous years. A barrage of tweets from students around the campus revealed it was evident that some students were not satisfied with the lineup for Howard’s homecoming during its 150th year.

Regardless of some students’ disappointment, the crowd cheerfully sang along to Rick Ross’s smash hits “Aston Martin Music” and “John.” Ross’s demanding stage presence provided for an exciting performance, and with the help of Wale, he was able to give Howard a memorable homecoming experience. Doug E. Fresh also delivered an entertaining rap performance that involved the crowd finishing verses for him as he rapped. Yardfest was the focal point of entertainment this weekend and properly celebrated Howard’s 150th anniversary.
