61 models, $2 million dollar lingerie and one fallen Angel. Millions tuned into the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai. Anticipation circulated all over worldwide communities. The night was packed with excitement and buzz from all ends of social media.

Prior to the event, Gigi Hadid was dropped from the gig after a video of her mocking Asian facial features surfaced on social media, which resulted in the Chinese rejecting her visa. In better social news, six black models debuted as Angels this year. Alécia Morais, Amilna Estevão, Aiden Curtiss, Mayowa Nicholas, Samile Bermannelli and Grace Bol graced the stage with poise and added a healthy dose of melanin to the runway. “Honestly I’m just rooting for everyone black,” Howard freshman, Taiyler Mitchell said during the Howard PINK Watch Party at HalfSmoke.

Miguel, Harry Styles and Leslie Odom were among the many musical performers. Miguel introduced a song off his upcoming album “War & Leisure.” One highlight that no one missed was when Chinese model, Ming Xi slid to her knees on the catwalk during Leslie Odom’s performance. Although she eventually composed herself and completed her walk, she reportedly burst into tears offstage. Ming Xi has been an Angel in four shows but this was her first time representing VS in her hometown. After his performance Leslie Odom noted, “It happens to the best of us. Fall down seven times, get up eight.” The internet supported the fallen Angel encouraging her to keep going.

The 2017 show was definitely memorable but there still leaves questions for next year’s show: Will VS allow Gigi to join the Angels although she made racist comments? Will more diversity be included in the show with the addition of plus sized models? Will Beyonce ever give her own performance at the show? I guess the only way to find out is to tune in to next year.
